WHAT IS HOT STONE MASSAGE?
This is a form of bodywork (also called Thermotherapy) in which hot smooth basalt stones are applied to the body in varying sizes and shapes in combination with massage techniques to bring about relaxation and relief to sore muscles, chronic or stress-related conditions. Hot Stone Massage is both deeply relaxing and therapeutic at the same time. Both the heat and weight of the stones help loosen tight muscles and soothes trigger points in the body.
WHAT IS A COLD STONE MASSAGE?
The use of marble stones is applied to the body in a similar fashion to Hot Stone Therapy. However, the emphasis is on fluid drainage and reducing areas of inflammation or acute injury. Ice can desensitize the skin but marble stone does not, therefore when used in conjunction with soft tissue manipulation (massage therapy) and mobilization techniques, the client will never be taken beyond their pain tolerance level.
WHY USE HOT AND COLD STONES TOGETHER?
The alternative temperatures of hot Basalt stones and cold Marble stones create a vascular flush reaction within the veins and arteries of the body. Heat allows the vessels to open, bringing in new blood, oxygen, and nutrients to muscle tissue while the cold helps to close or constrict the vessels, pushing out stale and deoxygenated blood. As the two extreme temperatures meet on the skin, the client actually feels a moderate temperature.
HOT AND COLD STONE FLUSH TREATMENT IS EXCELLENT FOR:
Headaches and sinus congestion
Tendonitis Injury (great for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!!)
Trigger points in the hands, thumbs, jawline, arms, and legs
Come try a Stone Massage from the therapists at 4 Elements! We find that by using the therapeutic application of hot stones, we are able to address our clients’ needs much more efficiently. The therapeutic use of hot stones is just as relaxing as its spa form but allows for more focus on a problem area during the massage, which in turn provides the client with a higher quality of treatment.
HOT STONE THERAPY PROVIDES:
Ease of tight muscles
Stimulation of lymphatic drainage
Soothing and balancing effects on the nervous system
Muscles are relieved without deep tissue work as the heat penetrates the areas needing a release. “Deep Tissue” massage is essentially carried out without the need for excessive pressure or causing the client increased pain in order to achieve the same results from a deep tissue massage treatment.
COLD STONE THERAPY PROVIDES:
Penetration into deeper muscular tissue, tendons, and ligaments
Reduction of inflammation
Detoxification and decongests the body by activating the lymphatic system
Interruption of the pain-spasm-pain cycle of an injured muscle
Increased metabolism of the body
Increased muscle tone
Decrease of pain
Cold stone therapy is also an excellent tool to use for treating sports injuries during the acute and subacute stage (usually 1-6 days after the injury has occurred).
